Let me give you a crash course for self-publishing on Amazon and related content creation. Don’t reinvent the wheel. If you can’t become a professor, you can run your own school.

  1. Write from an outline.
  2. Keep a notebook or journal near your bed and maybe in your car.
  3. Or write your essay as one thought.
  4. Use a pamphlet called Elements of Style. Fr fr.
  5. Edit your work and delete or rewrite unreadable passages. This is important.
  6. Test ideas on social media and/or a blog.
  7. You can use AI to edit and make suggestions.
  8. You can ask AI (Grok or ChatGPT) to write chapter after chapter.  BUT, YOU want to write for YOUR human target audience. (You should know a fair amount about what they like.)
  9. Be original with your cover. Try to grab attention with your cover.
  10. Your product description sells the book and tells customers what it’s about.
  11. Don’t leave keywords fields blank when you publish your work.
  12. Build an opt-in list.
  13. Brainstorm for unique angles and unfair advantages for the content and the marketing. Don’t reveal.
  14. You can repurpose old content. Blog posts can become videos. Blog posts can be incorporated into books. Banger emails to your list can be included in your book.
  15. You want to market your books on Audible.
  16. Remember, you are writing for a human target audience.
  17. People trying to get you to circumvent these guidelines should set off red flags.
  18. AI is making more competition. Take any advantage you can. Again, you can recycle or repurpose your warez.
  19. Someone slamming your work may well turn around and demand it for free. There are well-credentialed crooks, too.
  20. If you know your subject cold, you don’t need any help except a human or AI editor.
  21. Anti-consumerist professor probably won’t be much help to you.
  22. Create a curated feed on X that provides insight and where you can share your experience.
  23. Have ChatGPT or Grok edit your work. You’ll notice things with AI. Like it omits lessons from the trenches. It also likes to reword unneccesarily.
  24. Again, aim your whole work towards a targeted audience.
  25. Sell your audience on continuing to read.
  26. Break up long paragraphs into one to four sentence paragraphs. Watch those run on sentences.
  27. There are still things humans can publish. I can’t see AI writing another Atlas Shrugged or a manifesto.

Next, head to our bookstore for authors to model and for Elements of Style.
